Ceropegia je rod rostlin v rodině apocynaceae . To bylo jmenováno Carl Linné , který jako první popsal tento rod v objemu 1 z jeho Species plantarum, který se objevil v roce 1753. Linné si myslel, že květiny vypadalo jako pramen vosku. Z toho byl vědecký název je odvozen: "Keros" znamená vosku a 'pege "což znamená, kašny (Pooley, 1998).
